Let there be Bright. Resort 2012 trend report

Just when you thought it was safe, they're back! Brights have been a trend in recent spring fashions for the past few seasons. More than ever, we see in Resort 2012 collections that there is not just an accent of color, but the entire look is bright, down to the accessories and footwear. We are even seeing bright nails and lips making a strong statement on the runway.
Michael Kors takes this trend to the utmost extreme, combining bright hues with animal prints and "teva" sandals to create a very unique look. While designers like Chanel take their classic silhouettes and swap the color.

Trend Report: The Disco Flare

Photo courtesy of Who What Wear Daily

For the past 4 years, the indigo wash skinny jean has been the signature pant. This Spring, we see that it has some serious competition with a 1970's throwback. The flare jean in all washes is making a huge comeback this season with celebrities, models, and trend spotters. Combined with a tailored blazer, a button down, and wooden platform wedges, this vintage look is easily the go-to daytime look for this spring.

Christian Dior: the Fall of Galliano

Despite the rumors of boycott and strike after John Galliano's racist and demeaning remarks, the Christian Dior Fall 2011 show went on with a larger crowd in the audience and outside the tents than expected. With the absence of Galliano from this show, most expected the collection to crumble on the runway. This was not the case. The CEO Sidney Toledano preached to the crowd the values of Christian Dior himself and the company's integrity. He touched on Galliano's racist rant without speaking his name and stated that the show must go on by "The Heart of the House of Dior, which beats unseen... made up of its teams and studios, of its seamstresses and craftsmen."
The collection itself, without the shadows of controversy, was extremely well crafted and effortlessly elegant. He started the collection with dark colors, rich tweed, and luscious fur. His outerwear included long capes, trenches, pea coats, and cashmere waistcoats with fur accents. The collection gradually transitioned from heavy layered outerwear lighter outerwear with sheer pastel dresses of layered chiffon and soft lace.
Style.com compared Galliano's fall to the fall of "Coco Chanel's postwar denunciation as a Nazi collaboratrice." (style.com) Chanel was exiled from the fashion industry for 9 years. Galliano's leave of absence is to be determined.
The House of Christian Dior will persevere with their strong team of constructors and tight knit group of designers. However, the career of ex head designer John Galliano could be coming to an abrupt halt due to his uncalled for and demeaning comments.

Chanel Couture Spring 2011 favorites

J'adore! Karl Lagerfeld's vision for Chanel Couture Spring 2011 is soft, flowy, feminine, sheer, and shiny. He strayed from using the classic Chanel motif of black and white this season. The pastel color pallet of this collection is harmonious and romantic.
I love how all the models are wearing flats too, so chic.

UGG Sheepskin cuff boot, trendy or not?

I saw these UGG boots in an ad downtown yesterday that caught my eye, do we like them? I kind of want them for the subzero weather up here.
