smells like teen spirit: the return of grunge

kurt cobain lives today through current fashion trends.

the early 90's grunge phenomena of

flannel, lace, patchwork denim, and oversized crocheted

sweaters have appeared on and off the runway in recent trends.

designers and trendsetters alike have been combining airy feminine looks of lace and chiffon with distressed denim and olive hues to create a soft yet edgy

look. models tote messy crimped or braided hair with minimalist makeup on the runway.

military inspired boots, chunky heels, and studded clogs have also made a huge comeback in footwear this summer into the fall season. to complete the look, these styles have been paired with girly knee high socks.

Versace fall/winter 2010

the fall/winter collection for my all time favorite Versace. I love the slits in the long skirts and dresses. the colorful lamé accents create a fantastic contrast with the dull leather. and donatella of course has her standard mini dresses and extravagant gowns that I adore. I see a return to 90's minimalist chic in this collection. bravo!

memorial day's here, welcoming in whites!

now that memorial day has come and passed, it's now time to bring out your summer whites and turquoise jewelry. white denim, maxi dresses, shorts, and blouses are now in season! and nothing compliments a sun kissed tan better than bright blue jewelry and white threads.

my take on the classic look

when I think of "classic" looks, I think of chanel, tight hair in a barrette, red lips, gold jewelry, and the perfect little black dress. this look is perfect for interviews or a night in the city.

vintage floral dress and nantucket hat

it is a beautiful sunny day today so I decided to take some outdoor shots. all the jewelry is from italy, some of it my grandmother's and some I found on my own. they're all made of italian gold. the charm bracelet I'm wearing has a collection of red and amber stones from the island of sardinia. the floral dress is from my attic, probably a product of the early 90's.

I recently went to a pearl jam concert which inspired this fairly grungy look. I also just saw the movie "the runaways" which motivated me to pick up my guitar and play again.

relic of the day, vintage Levi's button fly cut offs. urban outfitters sells "urban renewal" jean shorts just like these at the moment. throw on a pair of aviator sunglasses and this is the perfect early summertime ensemble.

my style is versatile depending on my mood. today, I felt playful, whimsical, and girly. I tend to mix new garments with a piece of vintage from my attic. today's relics were my mothers sateen hair-bow from the 80's and my studded belt that I found in a vintage shop in vermont.
